Give Back Iowa Challenge

We would like to toot our own North Iowa horn!! Congrats to First Citizens Bank and Clear Lake Bank & Trust Company,  as winners in the 4th annual “Give Back Iowa Challenge.”

The eight-week challenge where businesses encourage employees to volunteer their time saw volunteers out in communities during April and May. First Citizens was named the 2018 winner in the small business category while Clear Lake Bank & Trust was given an honorable mention.

The Give Back Iowa Challenge had 56 participating organizations that logged over 83,000 volunteer hours in Iowa, a 39% increase from 2017.

“The winners of this year’s record-breaking Give Back Iowa Challenge truly understand what it means to be an Iowan,” says Governor Kim Reynolds. “Through service, Iowans are making the lives of others better and meeting community challenges, while also transforming their own lives.”

We are excited to announce the return of the Give Back Iowa Challenge, an eight week competition running from April 1- May 31 to engage Iowans in employer supported volunteering! Employers with the highest average number of volunteer hours per employee will be recognized with a visit by the Governor or Lieutenant Governor to their workplace. 2018 winners included First Citizens Bank and Clear Lake Bank & Trust received honorable mention! Let’s keep Mason City in the spotlight.

Give Back Iowa is an opportunity for employees who volunteer to receive recognition by tracking and reporting their hours, as well as for employees that may be first time volunteers to try something new that could help them develop additional skills or enthusiasm for their work.

How it works:
– Employers register for the challenge any time through May 31st.
– Employees log their volunteer hours between April 1st and May 31st. An easy way to log hours is by creating a volunteer profile on the Mason City Volunteer Center website (be sure to check off ‘Participating in Give Back Iowa’ on the application!), and then using the time sheet on our volunteer portal to track hours. If your employees haven’t tracked hours through our website before, here is the skinny to read to Tracking Hours on the MCVC Website Instructions Booklet.
– The Mason City Volunteer Center will then provide the logged hours to Volunteer Iowa.
– Winning employers will be selected based on average hours per employees.

Alternatively, employees can track their volunteer time on the Give Back Iowa website.
